2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC vs. 2021 Volvo XC60: a mismatch

In the world of luxury brands, the consumer finds a lot of interesting products. Brands like Volvo and Mercedes-Benz offer a ton of them, and there's generally satisfaction to be found everywhere. This is the case with the two vehicles we're putting in front of you here, the 2021 Volvo XC60 and the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC.

So, whether you're interested in one or the other, you'll have a great experience. However, since you're ogling a luxury vehicle, you definitely want to have the most rewarding experience possible. So when you compare the two models, you have no choice but to go with one over the other, the GLC.

Here's why.

Prestige and value

If it's an image of prestige you're looking for, you won't find a better one than the one put forward by Mercedes-Benz. It's reflected in the pride of ownership of a Mercedes-Benz model, but also in the value you're guaranteed. In fact, the GLC's depreciation is less than that of the XC60, which ensures that you get more for your money, both when you buy and when you resell.

Styling

The styling offering differs between Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. And we're not just talking about the lines of the vehicle, because it's all a matter of taste. In fact, the advantage of the GLC is that it offers two body styles. First, there's a conventionally styled model, then a coupe version that, with its sloping roof, offers a decidedly sporty and elegant look.

More convincing powertrains

Volvo made the decision a few years ago to go with only turbocharged 4-cylinder engines that are simply tuned differently to deliver the desired power. It's effective, but for anyone who likes the thrill of raw power, the fun falls flat.

Mercedes-Benz is taking a more traditional approach with the 2021 GLC. In the base GLC 300 configuration, there's a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. With the AMG 43 variant, a twin-turbocharged V6 comes to life up front, unleashing 385 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the AMG 63 S is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.

Volvo's corresponding T5, T6 and T8 models offer similar power ratings, but still below those of the equivalent GLC variants.

The interior

Finally, there are two striking elements inside. First, the presentation, which is much brighter on the Mercedes-Benz side. The color scheme, materials and overall styling overshadow what the Volvo XC60 has to offer in this regard. Then there's the multimedia system, which shows us how to do it simply in Mercedes-Benz, and how to complicate things unnecessarily in Volvo.

For all of these reasons, the choice is clear; you'll find complete satisfaction in a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC.
