2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE vs. 2021 Acura MDX: Better Performance, Technology, and Choices

The GLE settles in for the 2021 model year with world-renowned luxury, many powertrain options, groundbreaking technology, and a style that is uniquely Mercedes-Benz. Whether you require better efficiency or performance that satisfies the most discerning of drivers, this lineup has plenty to offer—and more.

The midsize luxury SUV segment is full of competition. However, the GLE is much more advanced than its rivals. Here, we illustrate this point by comparing it to the 2022 Acura MDX.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE has a great choice of powertrains

Under the hood, the GLE places itself on another level over the MDX with powertrain availability and capability. All four GLE models each have a unique engine, whereas all four MDX grades share the same one.

The GLE 350 is fitted with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that generates 255 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This model has the best fuel efficiency rating of any vehicle in this comparison at 12.4/9.0 L/100 km (city/highway). The GLE 450 moves up to a 3.0-litre turbocharged engine that generates 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This MDX's powertrain reaches 290 horsepower, and its 267 lb-ft of torque doesn't even catch up to the GLE's entry engine.

The GLE AMG lineup includes two models that continue the GLE's performance ascension in this comparison. The AMG GLE 53 delivers 429 horsepower and the AMG GLE 63 rockets to 603 horsepower.

Overall, the GLE has the most powerful and efficient engine choices available over the MDX.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE establishes the best driver-vehicle connection

Inside, the GLE is much more stylish than the MDX. But beyond better materials and textures, the GLE has a secret weapon: the industry-first Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX). Combining AI and other technologies, MBUX uses voice- and touch-activated commands to personalize countless vehicle functions, discover hard-to-find places, and allow passengers to interact, too. The MDX does not offer something this advanced.

The GLE also features a deep profile of luxurious amenities and comfort. It also includes significantly more front and rear headroom and rear leg room than the MDX, which reduces fatigue and makes longer trips more inviting for your family and friends.
