2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Technology on wheels

The year 2021 means the year of renewal for the most luxurious car in the Mercedes-Benz range. The S-Class presents itself completely redesigned for the coming year and as you would expect with it, it comes with a myriad of new technologies, each as impressive as the next. Let's take a look at three of them.

1 - Enhanced collision protection

You never want to be involved in an accident, but in the event of a collision, you want to be in an S-Class. For 2021, the S-Class will be safer than ever thanks to two important additions. First, the Pre-Safe Impulse system that will lift the car in the event of an impending side collision. Sensors that anticipate this moment relay information to the system, which acts accordingly. Also, rear passengers will be able to benefit from front airbags in the event of a front impact; this is an industry first.

2 - An advanced multimedia system

The MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) system has been a market leader since its introduction a few years ago. It is of course part of the S-Class, but offers even more voice recognition functions, including more commands and the ability to communicate in 27 languages. Also, the display is switching to LEDs (organic light-emitting diodes) for an even brighter display with accentuated blacks and more natural colors. This type of technology also uses 30% less energy.

3 - A steering wheel that senses your presence

The steering wheel of the next S-Class will be the first to be fitted with integrated sensors that will be able to detect if your hands are placed on the steering wheel. This recognition will prove very useful if you use the adaptive cruise control and let the car guide itself with its lane-following functions. Knowing that your hands are on the wheel, the system will not spend its time asking you to regain control of the car.
