2023 Mercedes-EQ EQE SUV Continues The EV Charge

As Mercedes-Benz continues the march toward electrification, they continue to expand their all-battery offerings with the latest coming in the form of the EQE SUV, which follows in the footsteps of the EQS sedan and SUV, the EQE sedan and the EQB compact crossover.

Like the EQE sedan, the EQE SUV resides in the mid-size category but while more and more manufacturers continue to deliver crossovers with chunkier off-road styling, Mercedes has done the opposite and the EQE is a svelte, streamlined and very modern-looking vehicle. That shape is pleasing on the eyes to be sure, but it’s also functional in that it creates a slippery surface to reduce drag and allow for longer range. Smart detailing includes optional flush exterior door handles, wheels ranging in size from 19 to 22 inches, sculpted wing mirrors adorned with turn signals and aggressive headlights and lower diffuser.

Two versions will be available in Canada: the EQE 350 4Matic with 288 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque from its dual EV motors and the hi-po 500 model with up to 633 lb-ft, enough to propel the EQE 500 4Matic SUV to 100 km/h from stop in less than five seconds. That’s a lot of pace for a family-moving crossover!

Speaking of pace: when it comes to EVs, power is one thing but how fast you can charge them is almost as important and the EQE SUV can be charged at up to 170 kW on a DC fast charger.

Inside, we find the application of the optional MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment display, which has three zero-layer design displays stretching across the dash to the tune of 56 inches. That screen is optional, but the standard 12.8” display remains a crystal-clear affair with all the lighting and graphics we’ve come to love about the infotainment systems in the latest Mercedes-Benz products. Also on-hand is a 12.3” digital gauge cluster, heads-up display with augmented reality navigation and Burmester audio with Dolby Atmos tuning for a concert-like atmosphere.

Other interior niceties include the application of synthetic leather designed to mimic real leather as closely as possible (real leather is also an option), a large glass moonroof and expansive windshield for an airier experience for all five passengers. Add a contrast of warm and cool tones for the interior and standard ambient lighting and users can customize their interior experience even further.
