2025 GLE SUV Lineup: 350 vs. 450 vs. 450e Comparison

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV lineup offers three distinct powertrains, each designed to meet different driving priorities. For Alberta buyers weighing performance, efficiency, and budget, understanding the differences between the GLE 350 4MATIC, GLE 450 4MATIC, and GLE 450e 4MATIC helps narrow the choice.

All three models share the same spacious, tech-forward platform, 4MATIC all-wheel drive, and 3,500 kg towing capacity. The differences lie in their engines, performance, and how they deliver power. Here's how they compare.

Performance and Efficiency

GLE 350 4MATIC: The Core Choice

The GLE 350 4MATIC uses a 2.0 L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This setup delivers 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds.

The mild hybrid system adds electric boost during acceleration, helping the engine work more efficiently without requiring a plug. Fuel economy sits at 12.2 L/100 km in the city and 9.2 L/100 km on the highway.

This model suits buyers looking for solid performance, everyday versatility, and a lower entry price. It handles Alberta highways confidently, tows up to 3,500 kg, and seats up to seven with the optional third row.

GLE 450 4MATIC: More Power, More Refinement

The GLE 450 4MATIC steps up with a 3.0 L inline-6 turbocharged engine, also supported by a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Power increases to 375 hp, with torque climbing to 369 lb-ft. Acceleration drops to 5.6 seconds for 0 to 100 km/h.

The inline-six delivers smoother power delivery compared to the four-cylinder, especially at highway speeds and during passing manoeuvres. Fuel economy is slightly higher at 12.5 L/100 km city and 9.6 L/100 km highway, but the performance gain is substantial.

This model appeals to drivers who want stronger acceleration, more refinement, and the ability to tow heavy trailers with ease. It's a good fit for families who frequently drive long distances or need extra power for mountain passes.

GLE 450e 4MATIC: Plug-In Hybrid Flexibility

The GLE 450e 4MATIC combines a 2.0 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a powerful electric motor and a 23.3 kWh battery. Combined output reaches 381 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

The key difference is the 77 km electric range, which allows for emissions-free driving around Calgary and nearby areas. Daily commutes can be completed on electric power alone, while the gasoline engine kicks in for longer trips.

Charging takes approximately 2.75 hours on a Level 2 (240V) home charger. An optional 60 kW DC fast-charging system can recharge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes at public fast-charging stations.

Fuel economy in hybrid mode sits at 11.1 Le/100 km city and 9.0 Le/100 km highway. Buyers with access to home or workplace charging can see significant savings on fuel costs over time.

Interior Space and Features

All three GLE models share the same interior dimensions and cargo capacity. Standard seating for five can be expanded to seven with the optional third-row seat package. Cargo space ranges from 943 litres with all seats in place to 2,055 litres with the second row folded.

Standard features across the lineup include:

  • Twin 12.3-inch displays with MBUX infotainment
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Heated front seats
  • 40/20/40-split folding rear seats
  • Power liftgate with hands-free access
  • Burmester surround sound system

The GLE 450e includes self-levelling rear air suspension as standard, while it's optional on the GLE 350 and GLE 450.

Towing and Capability

All three models can tow up to 3,500 kg when properly equipped. Standard Trailer Stability Assist helps manage trailer sway, while optional Trailer Manoeuvring Assist makes backing up with a trailer easier.

4MATIC all-wheel drive continuously adjusts torque distribution between the front and rear axles based on road conditions. This helps maintain traction on snow, ice, and loose surfaces, making all three GLEs capable winter vehicles.
