All-new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE delivers nearly 800 hp of hybrid power

The all-new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE was introduced earlier this week and it is nothing short of the most powerful Mercedes Benz S-Class ever built. It takes the same powertrain that was found in the previous generation of the S 63 AMG and tax on an electric motor to deliver exceptional performance that can match just about any exotic car on the market. The difference is that this new S 63 E PERFORMANCE also provides that interior space and luxury always associated with the S-Class and particularly the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship sedan.

791 hp from a plug-in hybrid powertrain

The all-new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE features a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 engine that on its own delivers over 600 hp with 664 pound-feet of torque. This massive engine is what powered the S 63 previously, but in the new S 63 E PERFORMANCE, it is joined by a rear electric motor that puts out an extra 188 hp. The net output is an exceptional 791 hp, making the S 63 E PERFORMANCE the most powerful Mercedes-Benz S-Class ever built and certainly one of the most powerful vehicles on the market.

Powering the electric motor is a 13.1-kWh battery and a 400-volt architecture. This battery can be plugged in and charged in a few hours, and it delivers roughly 30 km of all-electric range. More importantly, it provides the kind of performance that we rarely see in a luxury sedan by providing the rear wheels with constant power and enabling the stability and control as well as the performance of the 4Matic plus permanent all-wheel-drive system.

Quick handling and traditional AMG performance

The new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE will be able to reach 100 km/h in under 3.3 seconds. Not only will it provide exceptional accelerations, but it will also deliver remarkable handling thanks in part to a much stiffer structure designed to handle the added power.

Mercedes-AMG engineers added an aluminum stabilizer upfront as well as a cross brace in the back and a special reinforced compartment for the battery. These elements combine to improve rigidity and ensure that the S 63 E PERFORMANCE is capable of handling all of the massive torque that is sent to all four wheels and provides exceptional steering feedback in corners.

Of course, the new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE will provide all the luxury and refinement that we find on the traditional S-Class. That means you can expect premium materials, exceptional seats with a wide range of configuration options as well as ventilation and massage features, the latest advanced connectivity and safety technology, and you can also adjust the way the S 63 E PERFORMANCE behaves thanks to seven driving modes including an Individual mode. This will allow you to tune the behaviour from ultra-luxurious to ultra-sporty or anything in between. The new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE is a vehicle that requires absolutely no compromise. It delivers the performance of some of the quickest and most powerful cars on the planet while also delivering an exceptional level of luxury and refinement associated with the S-Class.
