Mercedes-Benz C-Class versus 2022 Audi A4: more versions, more choices

The Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class have been fighting a never-ending battle for the top position in the compact luxury sedan segment for many years. When one model is redesigned, the other follows closely behind. When one model offers new technology, the other follows closely behind, often with even more impressive technology.

In short, for consumers this is all very good news. This war leads to constant improvements on both sides and you get a quality product whether you choose the C-Class or the A4. That being said, the Mercedes-Benz offers more versions, more choices and is therefore ultimately able to appeal to more buyers.

Three engines for the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class offers three engines just like the Audi A4. However, there is a significant difference between the engines in the catalog. For example, the A4 offers an entry-level engine with 201 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque.

In the C-Class, the entry-level engine offers 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, while the Audi A4 offers a 7-speed. The performance is much more impressive in the Mercedes-Benz, while the fuel consumption doesn’t increase.

The Audi A4 offers an engine similar to the C-Class' entry-level engine with 252 horsepower, but due to the A4's higher weight, performance is less interesting with a 0-100 km/h time of 7.0 seconds instead of 5.9 seconds for the C-Class.

Next up is a 3.0-liter turbo V6 engine in the S4 that offers 354 horsepower. At Mercedes-Benz, you can get a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 385 horsepower for the same price. Needless to say, you can feel the extra 30 horses on the road.

Finally, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class offers a 63 AMG version with an engine that delivers over 500 horsepower. You won’t find an equivalent powertrain in the A4 lineup.

In short, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class offers more interesting engine choices and better engines, all at the same or lower price. To learn more about the new 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, contact us today at Mercedes-Benz Country Hills!
