The Icon Goes Electric: Introducing the All-New Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology

For over four decades, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been an icon of off-road capability and unmistakable design. Now, this legendary vehicle is taking the next step into the future with the introduction of the all-new electric G 580 with EQ Technology - melding its revered DNA with cutting-edge electric propulsion.

Design and Performance Enhancements

While staying true to its iconic angular silhouette, the electric G 580 receives several distinct design enhancements. A raised hood, flared rear wheel arches with "air curtains," and a roof spoiler lip contribute to optimized aerodynamics. Under the chiseled body, a potent electric powertrain with four individually controlled motors produces an immense 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of torque - accelerating this off-road beast from 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.

But the G-Class has always been about more than just straight-line performance. Thanks to its innovative individual-wheel drive concept, this electric titan can tackle even the toughest terrains with incredible prowess. The ability to climb 100% grades, traverse 35-degree lateral slopes, and ford depths up to 850 mm surpass even its gasoline counterparts.

Technological Advancements

At the core of the G 580 lies an ingenious modified ladder frame design housing the 116 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This not only ensures a low center of gravity but is also encased in a torsion-resistant casing to protect it from the rigours of off-roading. Complementing this is Mercedes' pioneering torque vectoring technology that generates virtual differential locks - precisely metering torque to individual wheels for unbeatable traction.

Innovative Off-Road Features

However, it's the exclusive suite of off-road features that truly set this electric juggernaut apart. The mind-bending G-TURN function allows the vehicle to rotate on the spot by up to 360 degrees on loose surfaces. Meanwhile, G-STEERING dramatically reduces the turning radius when negotiating tight spaces. Finally, the intelligent off-road crawl function maintains preset speeds over challenging terrain - letting you focus on finding the ideal path.

But the innovations don't stop there. Elements like the G-ROAR driving sound experience, aerodynamically optimized wheels, and the ultra-modern OFFROAD COCKPIT with its "transparent hood" feature elevate this vehicle to new heights of capability and technological sophistication.

Electrified Luxury and Sustainability

Within the plush yet quintessentially G-Class interior, owners will revel in the extensive standard features such as the intuitive MBUX infotainment system and sumptuous Burmester sound system. Customization also reaches new levels, with the expanded MANUFAKTUR range offering nearly limitless personalization options.

For the 2025 model year, the electric G-Class will debut in Canada solely as the EDITION ONE special edition, offering enhanced standard features and distinctive design elements. Additionally, the 2025 G 580 with EQ Technology is expected to arrive in Canada by late 2024.

As Mercedes-Benz forges ahead with its electric mobility strategy, vehicles like the G 580 demonstrate the brand's commitment to a sustainable future without compromising on the performance, luxury, and character that define its vehicles. The icon has been reborn as an electric pioneer - redefining what's possible both on and off the road. The future of Mercedes' celebrated G-Class has officially turned an electrifying new chapter.
