Three things to keep in mind when deciding when to install your summer tires

Is at the right time to install your summer tires? If not, then when is the right time? These are questions that Canadians ask themselves every March. When the weather outside starts to get warmer, we tend to get an itching to see our vehicle in its original wheels and summer tires. If you are in that situation, here are three things that you will want to keep in mind when it comes to deciding when to install your summer tires.

Summer tires only work well in warm weather

A summer tire is designed for use when the outside temperature is above 7°C. When it is colder than that, the compound on the tire will harden which will increase breaking distance and lower stability. Driving on summer tires in cold temperatures will also wear down your tire prematurely.

Even if it is warm during the day, you need to look at the temperature overall including mornings and evenings.

There's a chance we get a snowstorm in April

Canadians know that winter can be unpredictable. According to the weather network, once out of every three years we get a snowstorm in April! Nobody likes that last snowstorm, but you will dislike it even more if you have to drive through it on summer tires.

You can still book your appointment right now

We would recommend that you wait a little bit longer before installing summer tires on your vehicle. Ideally, you probably want to wait until the first or second week of April. That said, you can still book your appointment to have your summer tires installed right now. This way, you will avoid the crowds and get your appointment when you want it.
