What is The EQ Boost Technology from Mercedes-Benz?

The EQ Boost technology from Mercedes-Benz is a mild hybrid system that improves both the performance and the fuel efficiency of the models it is installed into.

Impressive fuel economy

The Mercedes-Benz EQ Boost technology employs an integrated starter-generator that sits between the engine and the transmission and acts as a motor to help move the vehicle, as a starter to bring the gasoline engine to life and as a generator to charge the onboard batteries while you drive. This system takes the load off of the engine by providing supplemental power during accelerations and it can also allow the car to coast with the engine off or to move slowly only on electric power. This last characteristic provides a much smoother driving experience than regular start stop systems that create noise and vibrations every time you need to move a few feet in heavy traffic. With EQ Boost, the engine doesn’t need to start, which allows silent driving at low speeds. All of these attributes combine to generate a very low fuel consumption that is impressive considering the size and category of vehicles the technology is used in, notably the new S-Class.

Engaging performances

The EQ Boost technology from Mercedes-Benz distinguishes itself from other hybrid systems, which are usually dull and economy focused, by providing an improvement in the performances of the vehicles that use it. A key element of this technology is the electric compressor that adds boost to the engine in order to eliminate turbo lag and provide instant response to the accelerator. Combined with the instant torque of the electric motor, this allows from quick and smooth starts and a strong acceleration that is definitely uncharacteristic of a hybrid vehicle. This system is paired with either a turbocharged 3.0L 6 cylinder engine or a twin turbocharged V8 and it improves the performance of both by eliminating all of the belt driven accessories that are normally required, which also benefits efficiency
